Greenhouses can be elegantly large or compact. It has to ultimately fit the purpose.
Most homes would like to have a compact one which fits its garden and maximises the view of orchids from outside.
India vs. West: In India green houses are not glass houses as in the western countries. This is because the temperature in the cold season seldom goes below 10 degree C. The green houses doesn't need artifiial lights fitted in as the sunlight is abundant. Many places in India have high humidity and doesn't need humidifiers thoughout the year. This actually makes things much easier. Partially opened green houses provide good air movement.
Ideal size: If it fits the purpose, it is ideal. However a 12 feet wide and 20 feet long green house will be good to provide easy attention and care.
Foundation: The foundation of a greenhouse is an additional but necessary expense. Adequate drainage should be planned and provided.

Photos: Green houses are planned considering the needs of each species of Orchids.
Benches: There are no set rules to follow when constructing benches for orchids. The height and width should be considered to suit the plants and the purpose of the green house e.g. storage, farming etc. The top surface of the benches should provide
aeration and so should be formed by strips or mesh. We prefer tough non-metal coated nets for this purpose prevent rusting. This will provide adequate air circulation for the roots. |
